In the simplest terms, Thermal Transfer is the process of transferring ink from a coated ribbon to a substrate using a thermal printhead. As the ribbon moves over the printhead, resistive elements on the printhead are heated, causing the ink to become molten. The ink then releases from the film carrier and transfers onto the receiver, with the spent ribbon winding onto a take-up spindle.
Benefits
- No printing plate costs
Your desired print pattern is entered into the computer and thermally transferred onto your label. This process eliminates the cost of purchasing printing plates. Thermal printing is ideal for dynamic or variable information.
- Mass customization
Thermal printing is great for small print runs because there is very little set up time.
- Custom Bar Codes: Shipping labels
The thermal process is great for printing scannable bar codes and variable information on shipping labels.
Capabilities
Thermal transfer printing produces bar codes, sequential numbers and other labels which require variable information. Thermal printed labels can be customized.
Materials
